Allegations and Complaints

This course examines the complexities associated with allegations and complaints against foster carers, in particular the need to balance support for foster families with the questioning and analysis required of an investigation. It is intended to equip foster carers, and others with related roles, with the knowledge and understanding to minimise the risk of allegations and complaints, and contribute to an investigation should this happen.

Aims and objectives:

  • Improved understanding about the legislative and regulatory framework for managing complaints and allegations about practice and standards of care;

  • Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in the placement to minimise risks of allegations and complaints;

  • Improved understanding about the impact of allegations and investigations on the individual, and know what support and information can be provided;

  • Be able to describe the process for managing and investigating allegations, including the role of the Local Area Designated Officer (LADO) and how to access the local LADO protocol.
